Entertainment at Every Corner

Within walking distance or a short drive from campus, you’ll find great shopping, restaurants, entertainment and the hopping nightlife of downtown ĢƵ, the third-largest city in North Carolina.

Wander through the vintage shops on Elm Street. Hit the Food Truck Festival with your friends. Catch a local band at one of our live music venues. See a Broadway show at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. Cheer on the ĢƵ Grasshoppers minor-league baseball team (affiliated with Major League Baseball’s Pittsburgh Pirates). Plus, you’ll have access to great internship opportunities with area businesses.

The Downtown Greenway, a 4-mile walking/bike path that encircles downtown ĢƵ, is nearing completion and passes just along our campus’s eastern edge. 

The on East Washington Street can connect you with local and intercity buses, and you can easily take a day trip by Amtrak train to Raleigh or Charlotte, or ride the Southern Crescent north to Washington, D.C., or south to New Orleans.

That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald earned his master's from Virginia Tech University (studied astrodynamics) as well as earning an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. He joined the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an Advanced Mission Design Engineer, optimizing trajectories for the Artemis II and III missions to return humans to the moon.
